Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood within the West Island of Montreal is an example of a "sleepy" place. Many people who don't know they mistakenly believe"the" West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually, the West Island includes everything westward of that city Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time within the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. She had a dream to become a professional dancer, but due to an explosive expansion, she outgrew every one of her dance partners. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that, in her heels, she stood 6 feet 1 inch tall. Once I had outgrown my male partners I stopped. For Brugel, it was her encouragement from an instructor in drama from her high school which inspired her to start acting. She was encouraged to participate in the school's production. The teacher who suggested she play a character in the school's annual show. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she took classes in theatre and was awarded the Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 2000. In the last 20 years the career of Brugel has seen her perform in more than 60 TV and film productions. Her most notable role was the one of Rita (shown here) in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian in the Season 1 actors of the series and was only seen on occasion, was the only Canadian.
